Have you been awarded a grant or scholarship for work lasting less than four months?
The length of the working period is important when determining eligibility for pension insurance. Grants and scholarships for work lasting less than four months are usually not eligible for pension insurance, as the minimum working period is four months. However, if you already have valid insurance, under certain conditions you may be able to insure a grant or scholarship lasting less than four months by adding it to your existing insurance.
Adding a new grant or scholarship to your existing insurance policy
You can add a new grant or scholarship to your existing insurance policy if has been awarded for the same purpose and the working period is between one and four months.
Adding a new grant or scholarship to existing insurance policy is possible only if the work is carried out either simultaneously with the existing insurance or continues immediately afterwards without interruption. In addition, the new grant or scholarship must be awarded by the same body or for the same working group as the existing grant or scholarship.
Apply to have your new grant or scholarship added to your existing insurance policy
An insurance application for the new grant or scholarship must be submitted before your work under the new grant or scholarship has been completed. Explain in the application that you are applying to have your new grant or scholarship added to your existing insurance policy. Include the new grant or scholarship decision with your application. Remember, grants and scholarships for work lasting at least four months must always be insured whenever the insurance conditions are fulfilled. Read more about pension insurance for grant and scholarship recipients.
