Changes to your grant or scholarship work
Are changes being made to your grant work? Notify both Mela and the issuer of your grant about any changes during the insurance period.
Suspending your grant work
The insurance that has been issued to you may be suspended if your grant work is interrupted for a period of four months or more due to:
- Illness or rehabilitation
- Childbirth or care of a child under the age of 3
- Paid employment
- Military or civilian service
- Other similar reason.
In order for the insurance to be suspended, it must be valid for at least four months before the work is interrupted, and the length of the remaining working period must also be at least four months.
Notify Mela about the changes using our e-services or send the Application due to a change in circumstances to us by post. Based on the information you provide in your application, we will then determine whether changes to your insurance are required.
In addition, you will need written consent from the issuer of your grant permitting you to interrupt your work. Send us the consent at the same time that you notify us about the discontinuation of your grant work.
Notify Mela about your return to grant work using our e-services. If your grant work has changed and your work input has increased or decreased, you can apply for an adjustment to your MYEL earnings if certain conditions are met. Find out more about adjusting your MYEL earnings.
Changes to the terms of use of your grant funds
If the way in which your grant funds will be used changes during the insurance period, notify Mela using the form Application due to a change in circumstances.
Changes to the amount of your work input, the duration of your grant work, or the amount of your MYEL earnings
Your MYEL earnings can be adjusted in the middle of the insurance period if certain conditions are met due to changes in the amount of your work input and the duration of your grant work, for example if your grant work changes from full time to part time or vice versa.
MYEL earnings can be adjusted if the following conditions are met:
- Your insurance was issued at least for 12 months, and it is still valid at least for one month period when you apply for the adjustment.
- Your work input changes by at least 20 %. The insurance period is extended or shortened. The change will be valid for at least 4 months.
- The conditions for mandatory MYEL insurance are still met after the adjustment.
- The issuer of your grant accepts the changes in working time and work input, and Mela is notified about this.
Adjusting MYEL earnings is also possible when combining insurance policies or if your grant work continues after the suspension of the insurance. However, MYEL earnings cannot be adjusted retroactively.
You can apply for an adjustment to your MYEL earnings using our e-services. Remember to include written consent from the issuer of your grant. If you have any questions, send us a message using our e-services or call our customer service for grant recipients: 029 435 2695.
