Pension and social security for farmers, reindeer herders, professional fishermen and forest owners in Finland is based on MYEL pension insurance in accordance with the Farmers’ Pension Act (MYEL). In addition to MYEL pension insurance, Mela provides both occupational and leisure-time accident insurance, Mela sickness allowance, farmers’ holiday and stand-in support and other benefits. All of this put together is what we call Mela security.
